This timeline of works by African women does not claim to be exhaustive. It includes most of the fiction films, documentaries and tele-films that have appeared in international film festivals or many that have been programmed locally. Other works listed are drawn from various sources that have documented filmmaker biographies, or from film-related literature and websites. Perhaps the areas that are least represented are local programs whose lists of productions are not widely distributed.
